Overview
Every decade we see massive changes in the IT industry. In the 80s we saw desktop computing flourish, and progressed to a client server model in the 90s. Mobile computing grew quickly in 2000 and beyond. 2017 presents a variety of technologies that may deliver IT efficiencies on a grand scale. Technologies and trends such as AI and Advanced Machine Learning, Intelligent Apps, Intelligent Things, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Digital Twin, Blockchain and Distributed Ledgers, Conversational System, Mesh App and Service Architecture, Digital Technology Platforms, Adaptive Security Architecture., and others may be game changers. How will you capitalize on these technologies, but more importantly how will your Enterprise Architecture embrace the digital world to support all the changes?

Conference Program
8:00am – 9:00am: Registration and Continental Breakfast
9:00am-9:50am: Agile, DevOps, and EA at a 150 Year Old Company
Firasat Hussain, VP, Enterprise Architecture, RR Donnelley
The focus of the talk would be to describe the evolutionary journey, challenges, approaches, and learnings at RRD over the past 4 years. 9:50am -10:20am: Refreshment Break
10:20am-11:10am: Cloud Native Software and its Impact on Enterprise Architecture
Patrick Emmons, CEO, DragonSpears
All roads lead to the Cloud, that much is clear to everyone at this point. Cloud native software is how startups and some larger organizations are taking advantage of this new paradigm. How does this affect the Enterprise Architect? Patrick Emmons is going to share what EAs can do to embrace the upcoming challenges and opportunities…and make sure you don’t get stuck in Mode 1 purgatory.
Emmons

Jason Urban, Principal Consultant, Spark Systems
The focus of this presentation is to review the explosive growth of Low-Code and No-Code Development platforms solutions across businesses today. The presentation will review unique features of both Low Code and No Code solutions, the current leaders in their respective market segments, and advantages (and disadvantages) of both development platforms.

12:00pm – 1:00pm Luncheon
1:00pm-1:50pm: The Evolving Architecture for Secure Remote Access
Dean Sharp, Global Network Architect, Manpower
Secure remote access is a critical component to doing business for most companies. Developing an architecture roadmap for secure remote access is an evolution as security pressures, better users experiences and moves to the cloud are fundamentally shifting the way organizations approach secure remote access globally. While roadmaps are a part of strategic planning and enterprise architecture, there also needs to be flexibility with the architecture to account for change without impacting end users or disrupting the business. Moving from the current to future state architecture can be challenging, especially when technologies are often times brought in out of sequence to address immediate business/security concerns. Communication, interoperability and new technology approaches are keys to a successful secure remote access architecture driven by the rapid adoption/disruption of moving applications, data and datacenters to the cloud.

1:50pm – 2:40pm: IT Modernization and Cloud Migration Meet Up
Jeff Fraleigh, Global Head, CAST Highlight-CAST Software
In this highly interactive session, we will discuss the market forces that are driving modernization / migration efforts, the quickest way to get a baseline of your environment, and how to identify & prioritize next steps in a broader application to the rest of your IT landscape while reducing complexity and accelerating the migration process. This isn’t meant to be an academic exercise; rather, a mutual sharing of information from practitioners in the real world.

2:40pm – 3:10pm: Refreshment Break
3:10pm-4:00pm: What Serverless Means to Enterprise Apps
Sumit Sarkar, Chief Research Officer, Progress
There’s a new approach to app development ripe with misconceptions and more buzzwords to translate to business sponsors. Industry analysts call it serverless, but it’s also known as backend as a service (BaaS), function as a service (FaaS), cloud-native architectures, or microservices—just to name a few. Whatever you call it, this approach is giving developers new freedom to focus on frontend functionality and deliver better, more innovative user experiences and ultimately establish value faster. Let’s discuss the pros and cons of serverless in enterprise architectures.
