Justin McDermott, VP of IT Strategy and Special Projects, Wintrust Financial

I spent most of my early career in the United States Army doing local area networking and system administration. I supported user bases from 10 users to 500+ users, doing level 1 and 2 support as well as hands-on equipment maintenance for Cisco SMB routers and switches. We also used 2.4 Ku Band Satellite feeds to provide connectivity links for internet and VOIP communication. I attended DePaul University earning a Bachelor’s of Science Business with major of Management Information Systems to give me a broader look at Information Technology and designing systems to work for the business.

I am a very inquisitive person, and use those skills to aid in root cause analysis and to develop solutions that are optimized given the requirements and restraints. I love to optimize things and am constantly asking “What if?”. I excel at big ideas, strategy, and other complex analytical assignments. I’ve found that my eclectic view point and never ending pursuit of the best answer is a trait that brings value to organizations that need alignment of systems and someone to help them “make sense” of it all. I have my CISSP, CISA, GCIH, GSEC and various other certifications.
